+ Senior Land Planner

BWE's Senior Land Planner is responsible for the management of Commercial, Mixed-Use, Retail, Entertainment, Residential, Industrial, Corporate planning and entitlement projects. The planner shall have an understanding of urban, suburban, and rural planning and land use principles and navigating the discretionary permit process for all municipalities in and including San Diego County.

The Land Planner will coordinate with BWE staff to provide service which exceeds our client's expectations. The Land Planner will develop new and maintain existing BWE client relationships.

Specific responsibilities of the Land Planner include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Oversee preparation of yield studies
  • Understand local and state development codes and zoning regulations including CEQA and coastal development permits
  • Develop conceptual site plans and land development feasibility studies
  • Research regulations and compile data and maps on a variety of planning issues
  • Prepare and present detailed site analysis, due diligence, and highest and best use plans, exhibits, and reports
  • Provide technical assistance to BWE surveying and civil engineering staff regarding site development issues
  • Prepare conceptual site plans in conformance with state, county, and local codes, plans, parking and other regulations to obtain entitlement and discretionary permits
  • Communicate effectively with city and county officials, clients, and co-workers
  • Make presentations to community and planning groups and at city council meetings
  • Prepare proposals and expand client base
  • Manage project schedules and budgets


  • Bachelor of Science degree in Urban Planning, City and Regional Planning, or related discipline
  • AICP certification is desirable
  • Exceptional communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Capability to manage multiple projects
  • 5 to 10 years of local planning experience
  • Proficiency with MS Office and MS Project
  • Knowledge of GIS, AutoCAD and Sketch-up, are desirable
